Description
An assortment of five contemporary hardstone carvings depicting various mythical and folkloric subjects. The collection features a large demon mask with prominent fangs and deep-set eyes, carved from variegated red jasper with heavy white quartz veining and a hollowed reverse. Also included are two figures of nine-tailed foxes, known as Kitsune, carved from a pink hardstone with white inclusions; one is depicted in a reclining pose and the other is standing with fanned tails. The group is completed by a seated stylized dragon carved from mottled dark red and black stone, and a smaller figure of a prancing horse-like creature, likely a Qilin, carved from a pale green and white hardstone. Each piece is hand carved with no visible maker marks, signatures, or factory stamps. Mask measures approximately 6 inches H x 4.5 inches W. Figures range from approximately 3 inches to 6 inches H.
