Description

A varied collection of approximately 25 vintage writing instruments and associated items, centered around mid-20th-century mechanical advertising bullet pencils. These writing tools feature reversible barrels that enclose the pencil tip when not in use, creating a shape resembling a bullet. The barrels are constructed from various colors of celluloid or early plastics, including cream, yellow, and orange, with metal ferrules and caps likely made of brass or nickel-plated steel. The collection highlights several American commercial and regional advertisers, including Fairfield Paint & Oil Co., Park Seed Farms of Urbana, Ohio, Diamond Caverns of Park City, Kentucky, The Concordia Creamery Co., and the Muskingum River in Marietta, Ohio. Others promote furniture and electrical appliances in Cleveland, Ohio. Religious themed pencils featuring the Beatitudes and the Ten Commandments are also included. One standard wooden pencil is present, marked A.W. Faber Balance U.S.A. 210 No. 2.5. Accompanying items include a two-piece stationery box with a red base and a white lid bearing the script mark White and Wyckoff, a mailing envelope from the Gold Star Wives of America Service Foundation in Chicago, a Look Bullet Pencil and Key Chain novelty tag with a cartoon character, and a slim brown case with a textured faux-lizard grain.
