Description
This antique hanging grocer’s spring scale was manufactured by Landers, Frary and Clark in New Britain, Connecticut. The scale features a circular dial protected by glass, mounted between two decorative metal plates showing remnants of gold-toned paint. The dial is printed with the manufacturer’s mark and text stating Approved Type 33 Serial E-I New York City Pennsylvania. The scale is graduated from 0 to 20 pounds, with additional markings for 1/2-pound and ounce intervals, and is marked with a total capacity of 60 pounds. A large, cradle-shaped scoop made of galvanized sheet metal is suspended by three steel chains. The entire assembly hangs from a heavy iron hook.
