Lot 530:
Sold for: $125
Description
This lot features three painted caricature items, including two wall-mounted dinner bells and one souvenir dish. The souvenir dish depicts a child seated behind a hollowed-out watermelon half, holding a slice to their mouth. The exterior of the dish features raised, gold-painted lettering that reads SOUVENIR OF THE SOUTH. The two dinner bells are designed for wall mounting, with brackets topped by caricature figures. One figure represents a chef in a white coat with red trim and a white hat, holding a spoon and a yellow cloth. The second figure represents a Mammy character in a red dress with a white apron and a red headscarf. Each bell is suspended from the bracket by a metal loop and retains its internal clapper. These items are constructed of cast iron and are characteristic of 20th-century novelty and souvenir wares produced in the United States. No manufacturer marks are present on the items.
