Description
A collection of antique and vintage literature volumes primarily comprising the works of Charles Dickens, Robert Louis Stevenson, and George Eliot. The collection features numerous titles from the New Century Library published by Thomas Nelson and Sons, London, Edinburgh, and New York. Notable titles include Little Dorrit, dated 1904 on the title page, alongside A Tale of Two Cities, Hard Times, Nicholas Nickleby, Bleak House, American Notes, Oliver Twist, Martin Chuzzlewit, Our Mutual Friend, Pickwick Papers, and Dombey and Son. These Nelson editions are bound in publisher’s flexible reddish-brown cloth or limp leather with gilt-stamped leaf and floral motifs on the spines. Also included are works by Robert Louis Stevenson published by Charles Scribner’s Sons, such as Treasure Island, Kidnapped, David Balfour, The Master of Ballantrae, and The Dynamiter, bound in tan, green, and brown cloth with gilt ship and anchor devices. A two-volume set of Fables de La Fontaine published in Paris by Librairie des Bibliophiles (E. Flammarion, Successeur) is also present, featuring half-leather bindings over marbled paper boards with gilt-ruled borders. The volumes are primarily pocket-sized duodecimo (12mo) or small octavo (8vo) format.
