Description
4×3 WWI molds. A set of six metal casting molds for toy soldier figures manufactured by Home Foundry of Chicago, Illinois. These molds are constructed from cast white metal, likely an aluminum alloy, and were designed for relief-style casting in home hobbyist sets. The subject matter depicts various World War I military scenes featuring soldiers in American doughboy uniforms. Specific scenes represented include machine gun crews, anti-aircraft or heavy artillery teams handling large shells, and infantry in combat poses within trenches using rifles and grenades. Each rectangular plate features a detailed intaglio-carved scene. The reverse of each mold is reinforced with an X-shaped rib pattern and contains a central threaded iron mounting stud for attachment to a casting press or handle. The reverse of the molds bears the cast-in markings: 2933 MADISON ST CHICAGO ILL. U.S.A on the left, HOME in the upper center, and FOUNDRY in the lower center.
