Description
9 in. This is an Adlake Kero model short-globe railroad lantern manufactured by Adams and Westlake for the New York Central System (NYCS). The lantern features a steel wire-frame construction with a dark oxidized finish and a clear glass globe. The top chimney cap is embossed with ADLAKE KERO and a manufacture date stamp of 4-41, indicating production in April 1941. The shoulder of the lantern frame is embossed with N.Y.C.S. and the initials D. O., typically designating the Dining Car Department. The clear glass globe is embossed with the word TOP near the upper rim and features the Cnx trademark for Corning Glass Works followed by MADE IN U.S.A. The lantern remains in its original non-electric configuration, containing the internal oil fount and burner assembly at the base. A metal auction tag numbered 153 is attached to the wire guard.
