Description
5 inches.This amber glass bottle with a black glass stopper is a late 20th-century reproduction of a 19th-century advertising bottle. It features a large, wrap-around paper label for Hurds Magical Mixture for Washing Clothes. The front of the label displays a woodcut-style illustration of a woman using a washboard while cherubs hover nearby holding a bottle of the product. The reverse side includes seven detailed steps for use under Directions, a Notice concerning the safety of the mixture on fine lace, and the attribution to Marsh, Hurd and Co., 577 Broadway, N.Y. with a price of 35 Cents. A line of text at the bottom edge of the label states, This is an authentic 19th century reproduction. The bottle is constructed from amber-colored glass with a wide mouth and a ground black glass stopper. The base is embossed with the marks W. C. W. CO., 3, and U. S. A. identifying the manufacturer as the Wheaton Consumer Woodbury Company. A white cord is tied around the neck of the bottle.
