Description
12.5 in tall. This amphora-form ceramic vase features a tapered body, a cylindrical neck with a flared rim, and two scrolled foliate-style handles at the shoulder. The piece is constructed of light-buff earthenware and finished with a matte teal-green ground glaze. The front is decorated with hand-painted stylized floral and organic motifs in a palette of cobalt blue, reddish-brown, magenta, and cream. These motifs are defined by raised gold slip-trailing, a technique referred to as moriage or tubelining. The reverse side features a simplified complementary design with scrolled accents and floral sprigs in light green, cream, and white. Gilded accents are applied to the rim and the stylized handles. The unglazed base bears no maker’s marks, signatures, or stamps. The overall form and decorative technique are highly characteristic of early 20th-century European art pottery, specifically resembling designs produced by Keller and Guerin of Luneville or Julius Dressler of Austria.
