Lot 214:
Description
15 in tall. A polychrome painted cast iron figural mantel clock in the form of a clock peddler. The figure is depicted in traditional 18th-century attire including a wide-brimmed hat, long dark coat, red vest, and blue breeches with yellow stockings. He holds a metal staff in one hand and carries a clock dial on his chest, with a second dial cast in relief on his back. The primary rectangular dial features an arched top with a hand-painted nautical scene showing a sailboat marked with the initials JP. The dial is finished with black Roman numerals and red and yellow floral corner decorations. The clock is powered by a mechanical weight-driven movement with two cylindrical metal weights and a short pendulum. The entire figure is mounted to a tiered rectangular cast iron base with a red-painted top.
