Description
This mixed media assemblage features a central Victorian-era chromolithographed die-cut pull-down greeting card, typically utilized as a valentine. The three-dimensional paper construction depicts a winged cherub or cupid dressed in a light green tunic, reaching toward a hanging floral basket overflowing with pink roses and blue forget-me-nots. The foreground contains an ornate, embossed silver-toned cardstock fence with a white dove perched upon it. The scene is accented by various layers of paper scraps including floral bouquets and decorative scrolls. The entire composition is mounted on a light blue paper background and housed within a circular wooden frame. The frame includes a white and gold-toned inner mat set behind a piece of convex glass. The verso of the frame is sealed with brown paper and retains a wire for hanging, a white auction tag, and a small label inscribed DE-67 over 22. A faint, illegible pencil inscription is visible on the upper right of the backing paper. 20 inches diameter
