Description

10.5×7 This is a commemorative footed and lidded compote produced by the Fenton Art Glass Company in Williamstown, West Virginia, to mark the United States Bicentennial. The piece is crafted from deep cobalt blue pressed glass with a vibrant iridescent carnival finish showing highlights of purple, blue, and green. The domed lid is topped with a molded spread-winged eagle finial and features four embossed oval panels, each containing a quote attributed to Thomas Jefferson: I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man; My confidence in my countrymen generally leaves me without much fear for the future; The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants; and The happiest moments of my life have been the few I have passed at home in the bosom of my family. The bowl of the compote displays four oval panels in high relief depicting various views of Monticello. The flared pedestal base includes oval medallions featuring a portrait bust of Thomas Jefferson and a floral motif. The underside of the base features an embossed Fenton script logo within an oval, accompanied by the dates 1776 – 1976 and a small five-pointed star. A gold foil manufacturer sticker is present on the interior of the bowl, and the original paper hangtags are attached. Dimensions: approximately 8.5 inches height including finial.
