Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 77:
Description
27 x 38 This hand-stitched and hand-tied patchwork quilt is a sampler-style piece featuring a grid of alternating blocks. The body of the quilt primarily showcases eight-pointed sawtooth star variants in various scrap fabrics, including calico prints, ginghams, and plaids, interspersed with solid golden-yellow and off-white cotton squares. The upper register of the quilt is distinctive, featuring larger, more complex multi-pointed star patterns and a section of repeating triangular blocks. The textile is constructed from an assortment of cotton fabrics and is hand-tied at the center of each block with green yarn to secure the layers. The reverse is composed of a plain, light-cream cotton fabric with visible hand-stitched seams. The irregular layout and varied block sizes indicate a handmade folk art origin.
