Description
78 x 86 This lot features two distinct handmade American cotton patchwork quilts. The first is a mid-20th century nine-patch pattern quilt, constructed from blocks of alternating solid pink fabric and various blue-and-white patterned calicoes, ginghams, and pindots. The blocks are joined with solid blue sashing and finished with a navy blue pindot border. The second is an antique indigo and white patchwork quilt, circa late 19th to early 20th century. It displays a geometric layout of small squares and rectangles utilizing a variety of period indigo-dyed shirting prints, including sunburst, floral, and stripe patterns. This piece features a white border with a perimeter of inset blue squares. Both quilts demonstrate hand-pieced and hand-quilted construction.
