Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 371:
Description
86 x 90 This is an unfinished vintage quilt top constructed from a variety of printed and solid cotton fabrics, dating to the mid-20th century, approximately the 1930s to 1940s. The piece features a Courthouse Steps pattern, which is a variation of the traditional Log Cabin design where rectangular strips are arranged in steps around a central vertical column. The construction consists of hand-stitched seams joining an assortment of scrap fabrics, including multi-colored floral prints on various colored grounds and a navy blue fabric with white polka dots. Many of the prints are characteristic of Depression-era feedsack textiles. The item is a quilt top only, lacking batting, a backing, and finished binding.
