Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 339:
Description
70 x 82 An antique American patchwork utility quilt, hand-pieced from a diverse array of cotton fabrics including calico, shirting prints, indigo-dyed textiles, and gingham. One side features vertical columns of varied blocks, including eight-pointed star patterns and striped strips. The reverse side displays a repeating grid of small squares in red, brown, and cream tones interspersed with larger blue diamond-shaped blocks. The quilt is hand-tied with white thread rather than quilted. The construction utilizes scrap fabrics typical of late 19th-century domestic textile production.
