Description

70 x 80 This hand-pieced and hand-quilted utility quilt features a vernacular variation of the Housetop pattern, which is a stylized off-center version of the traditional Log Cabin design. The quilt is composed of nine large blocks constructed from an assortment of scrap cotton and cotton-blend fabrics, including various calicos, ginghams, stripes, and geometric prints. These blocks are separated by vertical sashing strips of a black and white striped fabric and horizontal bands of a purple, blue, and green plaid fabric. The piece is finished with a yellow floral-print binding. A wide floral border with a cream ground is attached to the top edge. The backing consists of a blue and white geometric repeating print. Diagonal hand-quilting is present throughout the entire piece. The internal batting appears to be a repurposed solid teal-colored fabric, visible through wear on the reverse side.
