Description

70 x 72 This is a vintage American quilt top dating to approximately the mid-20th century, circa 1940s-1950s. The textile is an unfinished quilt top, consisting of the pieced decorative layer without batting, backing, or binding. It features a variation of the Bow Tie or Butterfly pattern, where central blocks are constructed from a grid of multi-colored scrap fabrics set against a solid pink cotton background. The scrap pieces comprise a wide variety of period-appropriate cotton and cotton-blend prints, including ginghams, stripes, checks, plaids, and small-scale florals characteristic of the feed sack era. The piece is primarily hand-pieced with visible hand-stitching throughout. The perimeter edges of the textile are raw and unfinished.
