70 x 76 A mid-20th century hand-quilted utility or scrap quilt made in NC. The piece is constructed in a horizontal strip-style pattern, featuring rows of varied vertical fabric patches alternating with continuous bands of blue and gray striped ticking-style fabric. The patchwork incorporates an assortment of period fabrics, including floral calicos, plaids, polka dots, and solids, typical of the 1930s through 1950s. The quilt is hand-quilted with a simple running stitch in a horizontal wave pattern. The reverse is composed of a plain cream-colored cotton backing with several visible repair patches, including one featuring a red and white checked fabric. The item is finished with a multi-colored fabric binding. No manufacturer or maker’s marks are identified.
