Description

46 x 66 This vintage quilt top is hand-pieced in the Grandmothers Flower Garden pattern. The design features multiple floral motifs composed of hexagonal fabric patches. Each floral cluster consists of a central hexagon surrounded by six coordinating print patches, all joined by a ground of solid orange hexagons. The piece is constructed from a wide variety of printed and solid cotton fabrics, including patterns such as calico, floral, polka dot, stripe, and plaid. Several fabric prints are characteristic of feedsack materials from the second quarter of the 20th century. The assembly is performed with hand-stitching, which is visible on the reverse side along with the folded-over seam allowances typical of hand-joining techniques. The item remains in its unfinished top state, without batting, backing, or binding. The perimeter consists of raw, hand-cut hexagonal edges.
