Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 242:
Description
64 x 72 This vintage American utility quilt features hand-pieced and hand-quilted construction. The front is designed with a grid of alternating patchwork blocks. One set of squares is composed of dark plaid or tartan fabrics in navy and green tones. These alternate with a modified snowball or economy block pattern, which uses a central fabric of multicolored dots on a pink ground, framed by corner triangles of various scrap cotton fabrics including light blue solids, polka dots, and small floral prints. The reverse side is finished with a red, blue, and white striped cotton ticking fabric. One edge of the quilt is trimmed with white eyelet lace. The quilting consists of simple, functional straight-line stitching throughout.
