Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 195:
Description
75 x 83 This textile is a hand-pieced quilt top featuring a variation of the Dresden Plate or Aster pattern. The design consists of multi-colored radiating petals constructed from various printed cotton fabrics, including florals, paisleys, stripes, and geometrics. Many of the fabrics are characteristic of mid-20th-century calico and feed sack prints. Each floral motif centers on a solid yellow circular patch. These elements are hand-stitched into a ground of solid mint-green cotton fabric. The reverse of the piece reveals hand-sewn seams and raw seam allowances. The item is an unfinished quilt top without batting, backing, or binding.
