Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 180A:
Description
72 x 84 This is a mid-20th century hand-pieced quilt top featuring an Eight-Pointed Star pattern, also known as a LeMoyne Star. The textile is constructed from various cotton and cotton-blend fabric scraps including striped shirtings, ginghams, small-scale floral prints, and solid colors. These scrappy elements form the stars, which are set within an off-white cotton ground. Dark olive-green square cornerstones are positioned at the grid intersections. The construction is entirely hand-sewn, as evidenced by the visible running stitches and unfinished seams on the reverse side. The item remains in its unfinished state, consisting only of the pieced top layer without batting or backing.
