Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 177A:
Description
70 x 80 A mid-20th century American hand-pieced cotton quilt top featuring a checkerboard layout of alternating blocks. One set of blocks is composed of a uniform pink cotton fabric with a small white and blue floral print. The alternating blocks are pieced in Shoofly and Churn Dash pattern variations, utilizing a diverse assortment of cotton scrap fabrics including calicoes, ginghams, stripes, and novelty prints in various colors such as navy blue, red, green, and yellow. Several fabrics appear consistent with mid-century and Depression-era feed sack prints. The item is an unfinished textile consisting only of the pieced top layer with raw, unhemmed edges.
