Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 174:
Description
66 x 80 This hand-stitched American scrap quilt is executed in the Spider Web pattern, also referred to as a Kaleidoscope design. The quilt top is comprised of numerous cotton and cotton-blend fabric scraps including stripes, plaids, florals, polka dots, and a novelty print featuring horse-drawn carriages. These fabric strings are pieced together into octagonal motifs centered within alternating frames of solid brown and black fabric. The curved inner edges of the solid frames create a decorative lattice effect across the surface. The piece is finished with a solid gray fabric backing and a coordinating gray binding. Hand-quilting is visible on the reverse side, following a geometric arrangement that echoes the piecing of the top.
