Description
60 x 70 A vintage utility scrap quilt featuring a variation of the Court House Steps pattern, a derivative of the Log Cabin design. The quilt top is composed of multiple hand-pieced cotton fabric scraps, including various calico prints, ginghams, stripes, and solid-colored fabrics in shades of blue, brown, pink, and lavender. The blocks are arranged in a four-by-four grid. The quilt consists of three layers: a hand-pieced top, a natural cotton batting interior, and a solid cream cotton muslin backing. The layers are joined together with hand-stitched quilting in parallel diagonal running lines. The overall construction and fabric types are consistent with American folk textile traditions from the early to mid-twentieth century.
