Description
An antique wooden counter-top display box for Boot Jack Plug Tobacco. The box is of rectangular form and is constructed from oak with finger-jointed corners and a hinged lid. The interior of the lid features a large yellow oval lithographed paper label with a red-dotted border, reading BOOT JACK PLUG TOBACCO COSTLIEST BECAUSE BEST. The front exterior of the box retains a partial yellow paper label reading BOOT JACK and features two metal eyelets and a partial metal latch. The underside of the box bears various factory stamps, including a red rectangular stamp for The American Tobacco Co., Factory No., and State of Kentucky, along with large black characters for BOOT JACK and red numbers 3-1-2. These boxes were produced for the American Tobacco Company, which acquired the original brand owner, John Finzer and Brothers of Louisville, Kentucky, in the late 19th century. Approximate dimensions: 12 inches x 4 inches x 2.5 inches.
