Description
This antique platform counter scale was manufactured by the American Cutlery Co. of Chicago, Illinois. The scale features a cast iron base and platform finished in a maroon-brown paint. A removable metal scoop pan, likely tin or galvanized steel, rests on a cast iron support arm. The measurement apparatus includes a brass sliding beam incised with two sets of graduations ranging from 0 to 5 on the top edge and 0 to 40 on the lower section. A collection of seven slotted circular iron weights is included, organized on a vertical metal hanger mounted to the platform. Several of these weights bear embossed denominations such as 10 and 20.
