Description
A mid-20th century embossed metal advertising sign for Sir Walter Raleigh Smoking Tobacco, produced for the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corporation. The sign is constructed of lithographed sheet metal featuring a dark green field with raised, yellow-painted lettering. The central design consists of a multi-colored embossed illustration of a Sir Walter Raleigh tobacco tin, which includes the brand’s signature portrait of Sir Walter Raleigh smoking a pipe. The top text reads Smells Grand… Packs Right and the bottom text reads Smokes Sweet … Can’t Bite! The tin graphic includes the text Sir Walter Raleigh, Smoking Tobacco for Pipe and Cigarettes, and the slogan Sooner or Later?Your Favorite Tobacco. A small manufacturer mark at the bottom edge reads Litho in U.S.A. The sign has a single pre-drilled hanging hole at the top center. The reverse side is finished with a gray coating and retains a paper auction tag.
