Description
This is a vertical advertising thermometer for Dr. Barker?s Horse Liniment, produced by Harriet Carter Gifts Inc. and dated 1981. The thermometer is constructed from lithographed metal with a color palette of white, blue, and orange. The top section features a blue-toned graphic illustration of a horse set within an orange circular field, titled DR. BARKER’S HORSE LINIMENT. The central portion displays a temperature scale ranging from -40 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit, printed in white against a blue background. The lower section includes a humorous graphic of a donkey with the inscription, Also Good for Mules and Jackasses. A glass thermometer tube is mounted over the scale. The reverse side is finished in red paint and features a vertical wooden reinforcement block. Markings include MADE IN U. S. A. below the scale and a copyright mark in the lower right corner that reads ? HARRIET CARTER GIFTS INC. 1981.
