An open-face pocket watch manufactured by the Elgin National Watch Company. The timepiece features a manual wind, 21-jewel mechanical movement, serial number 23637851, which dates the production to approximately 1921. The movement is intricately decorated with damaskeening and bears the following inscriptions: Elgin Natl. Watch Co., 23637851, Safety Barrel, ADJUSTED, 21 Jewels, and Elgin, Ill. The watch is housed in a nickel-silver alloy case, commercially marked as Silverode. The interior of the case back features a circular stamp with a crown symbol and the word SILVERODE, along with the case serial number 746816. The white enamel dial is designed with black Arabic hour numerals, a sunken sub-seconds dial at the 9 o’clock position, and an outer minute track with red Arabic numerals at 5-minute intervals. The dial is signed ELGIN in black block lettering. It is equipped with blued steel hands, including a whip-style minute hand and a spade-style hour hand. The case is finished with a gold-toned crown and bow. This watch is configured in a sidewinder orientation with the crown positioned at the 3 o’clock mark. Case size: 16 size.
