Description
This collection of twelve miniature decorative buildings consists of two distinct styles of hand-crafted structures. Six of the buildings are rustic cottages featuring roofs constructed from individual pinecone scales with white-painted tips to simulate snow. The walls of these cottages are finished with straw or coconut fiber thatch over wooden frames. The remaining six buildings include three red multi-story structures with dormer windows and three green tiered buildings with column detailing. These six pieces are fabricated from finely woven and dyed natural fibers, likely palm or a similar material, over lightweight internal frames. Several buildings retain gold-toned hanging loops for display. These items are characteristic of natural-fiber decorative miniatures produced in Southeast Asia, specifically the Philippines, for the Western export market during the mid-to-late 20th century. No maker marks are present; a fragment of printed paper visible inside one structure appears to be construction scrap rather than an attribution mark.
