Description
Dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this industrial long-spout oiler is a type historically utilized by railroad engineers to lubricate the inaccessible moving components of steam locomotives and heavy machinery. The piece is fabricated from copper sheet and features a cylindrical reservoir with two horizontal reinforcing ribs for structural integrity. The domed top leads to an exceptionally long, tapering spout that terminates in a slight curve. A secondary port with a flat-topped cap is located on the shoulder for filling, and a simple C-shaped strap handle is attached to the side. While the form is characteristic of manufacturers from this era, no maker marks, patent dates, or brand identifications are visible on the body or base. The construction displays traditional soldering at the seams and joints. Height: Approximately 28 to 32 inches.
