Description
This lot comprises two antique tobacco advertising items. The first is a framed stone lithograph for American Citizen cigars. The lithograph features a central portrait of George Washington in an oval frame, topped by an eagle and flanked by American flags and laurel branches. The composition is set against a yellow background and includes text reading Hand Made American Citizen, Mild and Fragrant, 5 cents, Pleasing to the Taste, and Popular Everywhere. The piece is matted and housed in a dark-stained wood frame with a glass front and a brass plaque marked Original Antique Lithograph. Attached to the reverse is a Certificate of Authenticity from Reserve Stone Engravings, identifying the piece as Item No. 1525 and dating the production to the 1870-1925 period. The second item is a rectangular lithographed tin for Maritana High Grade Sun Cured Chewing Tobacco, produced by the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The tin features yellow and black graphics with text indicating the manufacturer and product details, including a statement that the brand has been an active seller for over thirty years.
