Description
This traditional Burmese kyizi, also known as a kye-zee, is a triangular-shaped gong cast from brass. The gong features a flat, crescent-shaped form with flared, upturned ends and a pierced top for suspension, currently threaded with a frayed fiber cord. Both faces are intricately decorated with hand-engraved motifs. One side displays a central circular medallion depicting a human figure in profile carrying two items suspended from a shoulder pole, known as a pingo, dressed in a patterned lower garment and jewelry. The reverse side features a central circular medallion with a figure in a dynamic pose balancing a large pot on their head. Both scenes are accented with stylized cloud and scroll patterns, while the borders and side wings are filled with dense foliate and floral engravings. Above the suspension hole on one side, there is an incised inscription in Burmese script consisting of a larger stylized symbol above a line of rounded characters.
