Description
A trio of Southwest Native American style katsina (kachina) dolls, hand-carved from wood and hand-painted with various pigments. Each figure is mounted on a natural wood slab base and features extensive embellishments using natural materials including fur, feathers, leather, and stone. The first figure depicts a predatory animal, possibly a wolf, wearing a fur hood with horns and holding a bow and a feathered spear. It is dressed in a turquoise-blue kilt with yellow and green geometric patterns and features turquoise-colored stone accents on the belt and feet. The second figure is an owl-style katsina with a cylindrical head painted tan with brown markings and yellow eyes, a large fur ruff, and a white apron with red and green designs. The third figure is a masked katsina with a gray face, red ears, and a fur ruff, holding a shell and a black feather. It is dressed in a tan fringed suede apron with a green geometric symbol and turquoise-colored stone accents.
