Description
This antique apothecary bottle, likely dating to the late 19th century, is constructed from clear mold-blown glass and features a matching ground glass stopper. The bottle is fitted with a recessed glass label, often referred to as a glass-under-glass label, featuring the printed text PV. SANGUIN. in black stylized font, framed by gold-toned and black borders. This abbreviation stands for Pulvis Sanguinariae, or powdered bloodroot. The shoulder of the bottle displays faint, illegible handwritten notations. A modern adhesive label is affixed to the lower section of the bottle, providing a brief description of the item and its potential contents. The interior contains a substantial volume of dark, dried organic residue from its original contents. The wide mouth and stopper configuration indicate the vessel was intended for the storage and dispensing of dry powdered pharmaceuticals.
