Description
This lot comprises antique industrial tools associated with railroad maintenance and operation. The collection includes a conical oil filler can, frequently termed a tallow pot, used for lubricating mechanical parts. It features a long, straight pouring spout, a D-shaped handle, and a threaded cap tethered by a metal chain. Also included is a flare torch used for signaling or illumination, featuring a tall, tapered body with a D-shaped handle and a side mounting bracket. The torch is topped with a cylindrical holder containing a thick, fibrous wick. The torch body bears an incised mark of the letters P and R, possibly attributing the piece to the Pennsylvania Railroad or the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad. Both pieces are manufactured from heavy-gauge metal with a blackened finish. Oil Can Height: approximately 6 – 8 inches Torch Height: approximately 10 – 12 inches.
