Lot 288:
Description
This lot consists of 19th and early 20th-century paper ephemera and advertising publications. The selection includes a Buster Brown Comic Book, No. 41, which is a promotional issue for Enelow’s Shoes of Etna, Pennsylvania. The color pictorial cover depicts a youth wrestling a leopard. Also included is an 1883 edition of The Children’s Primer: John B. Doris and E. D. Colvin’s Illustrated Gift-Book, published in New York by Booth and Co., Printers and Engravers. This softcover volume features a wood-engraved illustration of an elephant family on the front wrapper. The collection further contains several copies of Pierce’s Memorandum and Account Book designed for Farmers, Mechanics and All People, published by the World’s Dispensary Medical Association of Buffalo and London with an 1894 copyright. One copy serves as a manuscript ledger with extensive pencil entries dated 1905 belonging to a Dr. Bangert. These entries detail daily activities and expenses, including fixing an office roof, maintenance on an Autocar, making a gas connection, and work performed at a residence on Merce Street. The items are printed on newsprint and standard paper stocks of the period.
