Description
This antique Dietz Vesta model lantern was produced for use by the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad. The construction consists of a metal frame with a circular wire-form base and a vertical wire cage surrounding the globe. The chimney is stamped with the Dietz manufacturer name and the Vesta model designation. The shoulder of the lantern frame is stamped with the railroad initials P. & L. E. R. R. The clear glass globe is embossed with the text NYCLINES, indicating it was part of the New York Central Lines system. The unit retains its original wire bail handle and features the horizontal air conduits characteristic of this model. A paper identification tag is attached to the base.
