Description
A 1981 fine pewter sculpture titled Plight of the Huntsman by artist Michael Arden Boyett, produced by Chilmark. This dynamic western scene depicts a Native American hunter leaping from his galloping horse onto the back of a charging bison while wielding a long spear. The piece is cast with high detail, capturing the musculature of the animals and the focused expression and traditional attire of the hunter. The pewter base is incised with the artist signature Michael Boyett, the copyright date 1981, a maker mark featuring crossed tools over a pelt, and the edition number 430 / 950. A circular pewter medallion is inset into the underside of the wooden base, bearing the title, the full artist name Michael Arden Boyett, the date, a stylized floral logo, and the text CHILMARK Fine Pewter. The work is mounted on a stepped, oval wooden plinth with a dark finish. The pewter exhibits a characteristic matte silver-gray patina with darker oxidation in the recesses to highlight the casting details.
