June Antiques and Collectibles Consignment
Lot 113:
Description
An American folk art wind-driven whirligig featuring an articulated figure of a man in profile. The object is constructed from hand-painted wood and metal components. The figure is decorated in a red, white, and blue color palette and is linked via metal arms to a central crankshaft. A four-bladed propeller is mounted at the front, consisting of wooden paddles tipped with embossed metal plates. The rotation of the propeller actuates the figure in a rhythmic sawing or pumping motion. The entire assembly is mounted on a stepped wooden horizontal base that terminates in a large, unpainted directional arrow tail. A modern paper auction tag from Altec Faber Auctions is attached to the central frame, featuring a barcode and the handwritten number 320.
