Description
8.5 and 12 in long This set of four reproduction signs was manufactured by Ande Rooney Inc. between 1986 and 1988. Each sign is constructed from heavy-gauge steel with a high-gloss porcelain enamel finish, designed to replicate public service and advertising notices. The collection includes a blue and white sign advertising a 5 cent sanitary seat cover dispenser reading SEATS STERILIZED, dated 1987. A second humorous sign dated 1986 reads SMOKERS WILL BE PUMMELED WITH PUNISHING BLOWS ALL OVER THEIR BODIES. A third sign, dated 1987, is a legal prohibition notice against spitting on station platforms by order of the Board of Health, citing a 500 dollar fine or imprisonment. The fourth sign, dated 1988, features a decorative lace-style border and a pointing hand graphic, advising smokers and chewers to spit on each other rather than the floor. All signs bear the manufacturer mark ANDE ROONEY INC. MADE IN U.S.A. along the lower edge. Each sign features pre-drilled holes for mounting, and the reverse sides are finished in a matte dark gray coating.
