Description
This 19th-century cavalry saber is modeled after the US Model 1840 or 1860 Light Cavalry pattern. The curved steel blade features a single wide fuller extending from the ricasso toward the tip. The ricasso is stamped with a king head profile mark, identifying the manufacturer as Weyersberg of Solingen, Prussia. The hilt is constructed with a brass three-branch guard and a rounded pommel cap. The grip consists of a ribbed wooden core that retains partial sections of a dark leather covering and segments of twisted wire wrap. The accompanying steel scabbard is equipped with two suspension rings and a terminal drag. Solingen-manufactured blades were extensively imported for military use during the American Civil War.
