Art Nouveau Marble Bust of Woman

Description
11.5 inches. Marble. This carved marble bust represents a young woman in the Art Nouveau style. The subject is depicted with her head slightly turned, featuring stylized wavy hair gathered into voluminous curls framing the face. She wears a headscarf or bandeau that terminates in a large decorative bow at the back of the neck. The figure is draped in an off-the-shoulder garment with flowing, carved folds. The sculpture is rendered in cream and white marble, characterized by natural brown and tan veining throughout the stone. The work is mounted on a small integral pedestal base. The underside of the base is flat and rectangular with a central circular mounting hole. The underside also features a series of incised lines and characters; these markings are irregular and are not legible as a name or recognizable words.
