Description

Diameter: 9 inches (measured at the outer rim) Height: 8 inches (measured from the base of the legs to the rim). A sand-cast iron three-legged cooking pot, frequently referred to as a spider or gypsy kettle, featuring a rounded body and a flared rim. This heavy utility vessel is equipped with a matching cast iron lid and a simple wire-style bail handle attached to integrated side lugs. The exterior of the body is detailed with four horizontal cast ridges encircling the midsection. The underside displays a prominent raised linear gate mark, a characteristic feature of early sand-casting techniques from the 19th century. Three tapered legs are cast directly into the base to provide stability for open-hearth cooking. The interior exhibits a dark, oxidized surface consistent with the exterior finish. There are no visible manufacturer names or hallmarks on either the pot or the lid.
