Description
Corp. Robert Leroy McGurer is the nephew of Mabel McGurer – whose photograph collection is offered in a separate lot. Robert?was born July 22 1920, enlisted in the US Marine Reserves in 1938, sent to Cuba in 1940, then to Iceland, then onto the South Pacific Theater?where he was killed in action Sept. 14 1942 on Guadalcanal. Included in this lot are a bevy of wartime and personal photographs, his purple heart certificate, assorted military letters, the death notice telegram and newspaper snippets, a photo of his overseas grave marker, a few pages of his wartime diary, a couple early childhood photos and postcards, high school letters and medals and his golden US Government SS ID.? He was the grandson of W. A. Gunn and a descendant of?the Smith family (a Civil War Soldier CDV, the family photograph album and English ring arm spectacles are offered in separate lots). ?
