Description
This group of metal objects includes commemorative automotive items, military-related trench art, and decorative metalwork. A primary piece is a cast metal ashtray with a bronze-toned finish, featuring a central relief of the Fisher Body horse-drawn coach and a male figure holding a torch. The rim is embossed with the text WHO SERVES PROGRESS SERVES AMERICA and GENERAL MOTORS. The underside is marked with an impressed circular seal reading BODY by FISHER / COMPLIMENTS OF / TERNSTEDT DIVISION / GENERAL MOTORS CORP. A second bronze-toned commemorative piece is a circular eagle plaque with horizontal wings and vertical stripes, dated 1941 1945. The reverse of this plaque features a raised, textured surface and an embossed rectangular box with the characters PRESENTED BY COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, alongside three threaded mounting lugs. The collection also includes a lidded container repurposed from a 75mm brass artillery shell casing. The exterior lid surface is stamped with characters reading C.B. The base of the shell is stamped with 75MM M18, LOT 2689-32, 1942, C.B.Measurements/notes: General Motors tray 5.5 in. round.
