Description
An Italian-made mantel clock in the Rococo taste, featuring a cast metal case with a gilt finish. The clock is surmounted by a figurative sculpture depicting a rider in 16th-century style attire, including a plumed hat and ruff collar, mounted upon a rearing horse. The architectural base is decorated with scrolled acanthus leaves, shell motifs, and pierced lattice panels. The sides of the case feature inset reddish-brown faux-marble or stone plaques overlaid with gilt foliate mounts. A white enamel dial displays Roman numeral hour markers and Arabic numeral minute markers at five-minute intervals, with black serpentine hands. A small printed mark is located below the VI position, consisting of two lines of uppercase text. While the first line is partially obscured by the bezel, the second line reads MADE IN ITALY.Measurements/notes: 14.5 in. L x 16.5 in. H.
