Description
A United States Model 1842 percussion pistol, a .54 caliber smoothbore handgun designed for military use. The firearm features an 8.5 inch round steel barrel secured by a single brass barrel band with an integral side plate extension. The lock plate is flat with a beveled edge and an integral pan, featuring a percussion hammer. The lock plate is impressed with the text U S over H. ASTON and further to the rear MIDDTN / CONN / 1848. The top of the barrel near the breech is impressed with the characters N W P over P. Small individual H stamps are visible on the brass side plate and the brass trigger guard. The pistol is constructed with a walnut stock, a brass trigger guard, a brass backstrap, and a brass butt cap.Measurements/notes: 14.5 in. L.
